CBSE Class 10 Science and Social Science — Unit-wise Marks 2026-27 and What Is Not in the Board Exam
For CBSE Class 10 Science and Social Science, knowing the unit-wise marks helps you plan revision, and knowing which chapters are assessed only in school saves time before the board exam.
This guide gives both, from the official CBSE curriculum for 2026-27. Always confirm on cbseacademic.nic.in, because CBSE can update the syllabus.
Science (80 marks + 20 internal assessment)
- Chemical Substances – Nature and Behaviour: 25 marks.
- World of Living: 25 marks.
- Effects of Current: 13 marks.
- Natural Phenomena (light): 12 marks.

Chapters not fully in the board exam (Social Science)
- The Age of Industrialisation (History) is assessed in periodic assessment only.
- Lifelines of National Economy (Geography): only map pointing is evaluated in the board exam.
- Parts of The Making of a Global World and Globalisation and the Indian Economy are done as an interdisciplinary project (internally assessed for 5 marks); the rest is in the board exam.
- Consumer Rights is done as project work.
- Check the syllabus for the exact sub-topics that are in or out of the board paper.
How to use this when revising
- Spend the most time on the heaviest units, but cover every chapter that is in the board exam.
- Remember the section rule for answer books (Biology, Chemistry and Physics; History, Geography, Political Science and Economics); see our Science and SST section-rule guide.
- Solve the CBSE sample papers and marking schemes under time.
