Navodaya JNVST 2027 Class 6 Entrance — Exam Date, Pattern and Last-Weeks Plan
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for Class 6 admission in 2027-28 is on Saturday, 28 November 2026. Registration has closed, so this guide is for Class 5 children who have already applied and their parents.
Everything here is from the official JNVST-2027 prospectus of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). This year the paper has a new Environmental Studies (EVS) part, so even children who practised old papers should read the pattern again.
Key facts for JNVST 2027
- Date and time: 28 November 2026, 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, in one phase. Children must be seated by 11:00 AM; late comers are not allowed.
- Admit card: NVS will publish it on the application portal; the date had not been announced as of 6 November 2026. No child can write the test without it.
- Result: expected by the end of March 2027, on the same portal.
- Kerala: there are 14 JNVs in Kerala, and a child can be admitted only to the JNV of the district they live in. Each JNV admits up to 80 students in Class 6.
The new exam pattern (80 questions, 100 marks)
- Mental Ability and EVS: 20 + 20 questions, 25 + 25 marks, about 60 minutes.
- Arithmetic: 20 questions, 25 marks, about 30 minutes.
- Language: 4 reading passages with 5 questions each, 25 marks, about 30 minutes.
- Each correct answer gets 1.25 marks and there is no negative marking, so your child should answer every question.
- A child must get at least 14 marks in Mental Ability and EVS, 7 in Arithmetic and 7 in Language. A very weak section can rule a child out even with a good total.
What each section asks
- Mental Ability (non-verbal, figures only): pattern completion, figure series, geometrical figure completion, mirror and water images, and embedded figures, 4 questions each.
- EVS (new): 15 MCQs and one passage with 5 questions, on the natural world, the human body, science in daily life and social surroundings (states and capitals, national symbols, festivals, crops and more).
- Arithmetic: numbers, the four operations, factors and multiples, like fractions, measurement and units, simplification, perimeter and area, angles and directions, and bar graphs, tables and pictographs.
- Language: reading comprehension only. In Kerala the medium can be Hindi, English, Malayalam, Tamil or Kannada, as chosen in the application; it cannot be changed now.
A three-week plan before 28 November
- Week 1: one short timed set a day from each section; note which Mental Ability question types are slowest.
- Week 2: daily 20-minute EVS reading from the Class 5 EVS book, plus 10 Arithmetic questions and one reading passage.
- Week 3: two full 2-hour practice papers on an OMR-style sheet, using the NVS sample questions on navodaya.gov.in, then revise mistakes only.
- Keep sleep and meals normal; a calm child does better than a tired one.

Exam-day rules
- Use only a blue or black ballpoint pen; pencils are not allowed. Bring your own pens.
- Do not strike out, erase or use whitener on the OMR sheet: such answers are not evaluated. Mark each answer once, carefully.
- Check that the test booklet is in the medium you chose and that its number matches the OMR sheet; ask the invigilator at once if not.
- No one may leave before the full time ends. A bell rings every 30 minutes, which helps keep to the section times.
