Kerala Plus One Exam 2027 — Pattern, How Marks Count, Results and Improvement
In Kerala, Plus One ends with a public exam conducted by the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE), not just a school exam. Your Plus One marks are combined with your Plus Two marks for the final Higher Secondary result, so this exam matters more than many students think.
This guide explains when the exam is held, how the papers are set, how marks count, and what to do if you want to improve. The official 2027 dates had not been announced as of 6 November 2026.
When the Plus One exam is held
- The Plus One public exam is held in March, alongside the Plus Two exam. In 2026 it ran from 5 to 27 March.
- For 2027, expect a similar March window. Watch dhsekerala.gov.in for the official time table, usually published a few months before.
How the papers are set
- Subjects without practicals (such as English, Mathematics, Accountancy, Economics and History) have an 80-mark written paper and 20 marks for continuous evaluation (CE).
- Subjects with practicals (such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science) have a 60-mark written paper and 40 marks for practicals and CE together.
- Each paper starts with cool-off time to read the questions, and you need at least 30% in the written paper of each subject as well as the minimum grade.
How Plus One marks count
- The Higher Secondary course is a two-year programme. Your Plus One and Plus Two marks are combined for the final result and grades.
- That means a weak Plus One score pulls down your final grade even if Plus Two goes well, and a strong Plus One gives you a cushion.
- Students are usually promoted to Plus Two even with a subject to clear, but it must be cleared before the final certificate.
Results and the improvement exam
- Plus One results are published on the official results websites. In 2026 the Plus One result came on 17 July 2026, later than expected.
- If you want a better score, you can take the improvement exam. In 2026 there were two sittings: in March (5 to 27 March, with the Plus Two exams) and in October (12 to 17 October). Check the DHSE notice each year for the dates and rules.
- Plan improvement early: preparing for Plus One papers while doing Plus Two is hard, so choose only the subjects where you can gain the most.
Preparing for the Plus One exam
- Treat Plus One as the first half of your board exam: steady daily study, not last-minute cramming.
- Use the Onam and Christmas exams as practice runs, and solve previous Plus One papers under time from January.
- For Science students, Plus One chapters are also tested in KEAM and NEET, so learning them well pays twice. See our Plus One study plan for a day-to-day routine.
