SSLC and Plus Two Exam Day — A Checklist and Tips to Avoid Losing Marks
After months of preparation, a few simple mistakes on exam day can still cost marks: arriving late, forgetting the hall ticket, rushing the first questions or running out of time. A short checklist removes those risks.
This guide covers the night before, what to carry, how to use the cool-off time and how to manage time in the hall. Always follow your school’s and exam centre’s instructions, which come first.
The night before
- Revise only your short notes, formula sheets and diagrams. Do not start new chapters.
- Pack your bag: hall ticket, pens, pencils, eraser, sharpener, ruler and any instruments your paper needs (such as a geometry box for Maths).
- Check the paper’s date and starting time on the official time table, and plan your travel.
- Sleep on time. A rested mind recalls more than a tired one that studied until late.
What to carry and what not to carry
- Carry: your hall ticket (needed for entry), two or three working pens of the colour allowed, pencils, eraser, ruler and instruments, and a transparent water bottle if your centre allows it.
- Do not carry: mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators or any other electronic devices. Any malpractice can lead to disqualification.
- Keep the hall ticket safe for every paper; make a photocopy and keep it at home.
Arrive early
- Reach the centre at least 30 minutes early, more if your route has traffic. Late entry may not be allowed.
- Find your room and seat, and settle down calmly. Avoid last-minute discussions that create panic.
Use the cool-off time well
- Every paper begins with cool-off time (15 minutes in recent exams) to read the question paper before you start.
- Read every question, mark the ones you are sure of, and decide your choices where the paper offers them.
- Plan the order: start with questions you know well to build confidence, but do not leave long-answer questions until the last minutes.
Time and answer-writing in the hall
- Divide your time by marks: a question worth more marks deserves more time. Check the clock after each section.
- Write the question number clearly, leave a line between answers, and underline key words.
- Show every step in calculations and draw diagrams neatly with labels.
- If you get stuck, move on and come back later. Keep the last 10 minutes to check answers, units and question numbers.
After each paper
- Do not spend hours discussing answers with friends; what is done is done.
- Eat, rest for a while and then switch to revision for the next paper using your short notes.
