JEE Main 2027 for Kerala Students — Dates, Pattern and How It Fits with KEAM

JEE Main is the national engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is the route to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes, and the first step to JEE Advanced for the IITs. Many Kerala students write JEE Main and KEAM in the same year.

This guide covers the 2027 dates announced so far, the paper pattern and how to plan JEE alongside the Plus Two board exam and KEAM. Always confirm details on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

JEE Main 2027 dates

  • NTA released the session 1 notification on 24 October 2026. Registration on jeemain.nta.nic.in is open until 22 November 2026.
  • Session 1 exams are scheduled for 20–24 and 28 January 2027.
  • Session 2 is expected in early April 2027, with registration opening in January. You can write one or both sessions; the better score is used.

The paper (B.E./B.Tech)

  • A 3-hour computer-based test for 300 marks, in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Each subject has 20 multiple-choice questions and 5 numerical-answer questions, all compulsory. Every question, multiple-choice and numerical, gives 4 marks for a correct answer and minus 1 for a wrong one (2027 bulletin).
  • The paper is offered in 13 languages. Malayalam (with English) is available at centres in Kerala and Lakshadweep; centres outside India offer English only.

Eligibility and what the score is used for

  • Students who have passed or are writing Plus Two (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics can apply.
  • For admission to NITs, IIITs and similar institutes through JoSAA counselling, you also need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. So your board marks matter.
  • The top performers in JEE Main (about 2.5 lakh students) qualify to write JEE Advanced for the IITs.

JEE Main and KEAM together

  • The syllabus overlaps heavily with Plus One and Plus Two Physics, Chemistry and Maths, and with KEAM.
  • JEE Main questions are usually more application-heavy, so practise problems beyond the textbook once the basics are clear.
  • Remember that KEAM uses your Plus Two marks too, so the board exam stays a priority. See our KEAM 2027 guide.

A plan for Plus Two students

  • November–December: finish the Plus Two syllabus and revise Plus One topics; take one full JEE mock a week.
  • January: session 1. Treat it as a real attempt and analyse your mistakes afterwards.
  • February–March: board exam first, with light JEE practice.
  • After the board exam: intensive practice for session 2 and KEAM.
