NEET 2027 for Kerala Students — Exam Pattern, Eligibility and the Kerala Allotment
NEET-UG is the national entrance exam for MBBS, BDS and other medical courses, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Kerala does not hold a separate medical entrance test: state quota MBBS and BDS seats are allotted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) using NEET scores.
This guide explains the exam using the 2026 paper as the example, how Kerala admissions work and how Plus Two students can prepare. The official NEET 2027 dates had not been announced as of 6 November 2026, so follow neet.nta.nic.in.
The exam (2026 pattern)
- NEET 2026 was first held on 3 May 2026. After allegations of a paper leak it was cancelled, and NTA held a re-examination on 21 June 2026 (over 20 lakh candidates; result on 16 July 2026). It is a pen-and-paper test.
- There were 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions: Physics 45, Chemistry 45 and Biology 90 (Botany and Zoology), for 720 marks in 3 hours.
- Each correct answer gets 4 marks and each wrong answer loses 1 mark. Unanswered questions get zero, so do not guess blindly.
- The paper is available in 13 mediums, including English and Malayalam. You choose the medium when you apply and cannot change it later.
Who can apply
- Students who have passed or are writing Plus Two (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
- You need at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together (40% for reserved categories).
- You must be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year. There is no upper age limit. To qualify in NEET itself you need at least the 50th percentile (40th for SC/ST/OBC; 45th for General candidates with benchmark disabilities), as stated in the NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin.
- So a Kerala student in Plus Two Science with Biology (for example Biology + Mathematics or Biology + Home Science) can write NEET in the same year as the board exam.
How Kerala MBBS and BDS seats are allotted
- All India quota seats in government colleges are allotted through the national MCC counselling.
- Kerala state quota seats are allotted by CEE Kerala on cee.kerala.gov.in. You register with CEE (in recent years through the KEAM application, choosing the medical option), submit your NEET result when it comes, and then take part in the rank list, option registration and allotment rounds.
- Watch both the NTA and CEE notices: missing the CEE registration can keep you out of the Kerala allotment even with a good NEET score.
When to expect NEET 2027
- Going by recent years: the notification and application around February 2027 and the exam in early May 2027, with results usually in June (in 2026 the result came in July, after the re-examination).
- These are expected timings, not official dates. NTA will publish the information bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in.
A study plan for Plus Two Biology students
- The NCERT/SCERT textbooks come first. Most NEET questions, especially in Biology, follow the textbook closely. Read every line, diagram and table.
- Now to December: finish the Plus Two chapters for the board exam and practise NEET-style questions on each chapter. Revise Plus One chapters too: NEET covers both years.
- January–March: board revision and model exams first, with one timed NEET mock a week.
- After the board exam until NEET: full-time practice: timed full mocks, an error notebook, and extra Physics numericals, which many students find the hardest part.
- Because of negative marking, practise deciding when to skip a question you are unsure of.
