KEAM Allotment Explained — Options, Trial Allotment, Phases and Fee Payment

After the KEAM rank list, the real decisions begin: which colleges and branches to choose, in what order, and what to do when an allotment comes. Many students lose good seats through small mistakes in this stage.

This guide explains how the CEE Kerala engineering allotment works, based on the 2026 process. Always follow the instructions and dates on cee.kerala.gov.in for your year.

Step 1: register your options

  • After the rank list, CEE opens online option registration on the candidate portal. In 2026 the first phase opened at the end of June.
  • An option is a college + branch combination. List them in your true order of preference: the system tries your options from the top and gives you the highest one your rank allows.
  • Include enough realistic options; listing only a few top colleges can leave you without an allotment.

Step 2: the trial allotment

  • Before option registration closes, CEE publishes a trial allotment. It is not a real allotment; it shows what you might get with your current options and rank.
  • Use it to adjust your options (add, delete or reorder) before the deadline.

Step 3: allotment phases and fee payment

  • CEE then publishes the phase 1 allotment, followed by later phases. Each result is based on your rank, your options, reservation rules and the seats available.
  • If you get an allotment, pay the fee online within the time given. If you do not pay by the deadline, you lose the allotment.
  • Download and keep the allotment memo and fee receipt; follow the instructions on when to report to the college.

Moving to a higher option

  • Options above your current allotment stay active in later phases, so you may move up if a seat opens.
  • If you get a new allotment in a later phase, the earlier one is cancelled automatically and you must join the newly allotted college.
  • If you are happy with your current seat, check the portal for how to cancel higher options or confirm, so you are not moved unexpectedly.

Tips for parents and students

  • Research colleges and branches before the rank list: placements, location, hostel and fees.
  • Mark every date (option registration, trial allotment, results, fee payment) on a calendar; most problems come from missed deadlines.
  • Keep documents ready: KEAM application number, rank card, Plus Two mark list, community and income certificates where you claim reservation. See our KEAM 2027 guide for the exam itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the KEAM trial allotment?

It is a preview published before option registration closes. It shows what you might get with your current options and rank, so you can add, delete or reorder options. It is not a real allotment.

What happens if I do not pay the fee after a KEAM allotment?

If you do not pay the fee online within the time given, you lose the allotment. Pay on time and keep the receipt and allotment memo.

Can I move to a better college in the next KEAM phase?

Yes. Options above your current allotment stay active. If you get a new allotment in a later phase, the earlier one is cancelled automatically and you must join the new college.

How should I order my KEAM options?

List college and branch combinations in your true order of preference, with enough realistic options. The system gives you the highest option your rank allows, so do not put a less-wanted option above a more-wanted one.
