Courses After Plus Two Humanities — BA Degrees, Law, Journalism and More

Humanities is a strong stream with many good routes after Plus Two: degrees in subjects you enjoy, five-year law, journalism and media, social work, design and, later, civil services and teaching.

This guide explains the main options and how admission works for each. Rules and dates change every year, so always confirm on the official websites before applying.

BA degrees

  • You can take a BA in subjects such as English, History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Geography, Malayalam, Hindi or Arabic, depending on your Plus Two subjects and the college.
  • Kerala colleges admit students on Plus Two marks through each university’s allotment. Central universities, including the Central University of Kerala, admit through CUET-UG.
  • Choose the subject you enjoy most: a BA is the base for a master’s degree, research, teaching, civil services and many jobs.

Five-year law (BA LLB)

  • CLAT, run by the Consortium of National Law Universities, is the entrance for the national law universities. It is held in December, before the Plus Two exam: CLAT 2027 is on 6 December 2026, and its registration closed on 31 October 2026. Students in Plus Two can apply.
  • For Kerala’s government and private law colleges, CEE Kerala conducts the Kerala LLB entrance (KLEE). The five-year LLB needs Plus Two or equivalent and a minimum age of 17; in 2026 the exam was on 28 June.
  • Law entrances test English, general knowledge and current affairs, legal and logical reasoning and basic maths, so reading a newspaper every day helps a lot.

Journalism, media and communication

  • Degrees in journalism, mass communication or media studies suit students who like writing, speaking and current affairs. Humanities combinations with Journalism or Communicative English give you a head start.
  • Build a portfolio while in school: write for the school magazine, start a blog, or make short videos.

Social work, psychology and teaching

  • BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) leads to work with NGOs, hospitals, schools and community programmes.
  • BA or BSc Psychology is the first step towards counselling and clinical careers, which need a master’s degree later.
  • Teaching: after a degree, a B.Ed opens school teaching posts; teaching eligibility tests apply for many jobs.

Other routes open to Humanities students

  • Design and fashion (entrances such as NID and NIFT), hotel management and foreign languages are open to students from any stream.
  • Civil services (UPSC) need a degree in any subject; History, Political Science, Geography and Economics from Plus Two give a strong base.

What to do during Plus Two

  • Score well in the board exam: Kerala degree admissions depend on Plus Two marks.
  • If you want law, start CLAT practice early in Plus Two and note the registration window (usually from August to October). See our CLAT 2027 and KLEE guide.
  • Read widely: newspapers, magazines and books. Almost every Humanities route rewards good reading and writing.
